Ep 4: Why You Struggle With Being Visible in Your Business
Episode 4 of the Good Girl Rebellion podcast.
Why You Struggle With Being Visible in Your Business: How to Show Up, Share What You Do and Start Making Sales
Episode 4 is all about B from our REBEL framework - Bold Visibility and Marketing.
You can talk about other people’s work easily. You can recommend them, support them, and sell what they do without hesitation. But when it comes to your own work, something shifts. You hesitate, overthink and hold back. And if you’re honest, it can feel uncomfortable even talking about what you do.
This isn’t because you don’t believe in your work, and it’s not because you don’t know how to market. It’s because visibility feels different when it’s you.
If you’ve got that good girl conditioning, this will probably feel familiar. You were taught to be helpful, supportive, not make things difficult, and not draw too much attention to yourself. Those traits have served you. They’ve made you reliable, thoughtful, and very good at what you do. But they don’t always serve you in business, because business asks you to step forward and be seen.
Most people I work with love the doing part of their work. They love creating, helping, delivering their service or product. That part feels natural. But then comes the part where you have to talk about it, share it, and invite people in - that’s where everything can start to feel uncomfortable.
When it’s time to be visible, a lot of things can come up. You might find yourself thinking you’re not ready yet, or that you need to improve something first. You might worry about what people will think, or feel like you’re bothering people by talking about what you do. So you wait. Or you show up once and then disappear. Or you stay busy behind the scenes, telling yourself you’ll share it later.
One of the biggest blocks I see is the feeling of not wanting to bother people. But the truth is, people don’t see everything you share. They’re busy, distracted, and often need reminding. And more importantly, the right people want to hear from you. They are looking for what you offer, they just don’t know you exist yet.
This is where the shift needs to happen. You cannot be the best-kept secret and grow a business. If people don’t know what you do, they can’t work with you, they can’t buy from you, and they can’t recommend you. Visibility isn’t an optional extra, it’s part of building a business.
A lot of this also comes down to how we think about selling. When we hear the word “selling”, we often think of pressure, persuasion, or being pushy. And of course we don’t want to do that. But that’s not what good selling is. Good selling is clear, honest and direct. It’s about letting the right people see what you offer and decide for themselves.
You don’t need to persuade anyone. You don’t need to convince or push. You simply need to show up, share what you do, and invite people in. The goal is not to make everyone say yes. It’s to make it easy for the right people to recognise that what you offer is for them.
Another piece of this is repetition. You might feel like you’ve already said something, but most people won’t have seen it, or won’t have taken it in yet. Or they weren’t ready for it at the time. That means you need to say it again, and again, and in different ways. Not because you’re being repetitive, but because that’s how people actually hear you.
So instead of asking how to get this perfect, a better question is: how can I show up today? Not perfectly, not strategically, just consistently.
This week, try taking one small visibility action each day. That might be sharing what you do, talking about an offer, posting something, or inviting someone to work with you. It doesn’t need to be big or polished. It just needs to happen.
Confidence doesn’t come before this. It comes from doing it. From showing up, even when it feels slightly uncomfortable, and realising you’re okay.
If you want to go deeper into this, in this episode of the podcast I talk about why visibility feels so uncomfortable, how good girl conditioning shows up in your marketing, and how to start showing up in a way that actually feels like you.
You don’t need to be louder or become someone else. You just need to let people know what you do and invite them in.
It’s time.
