Ep 1: Why Doing Everything Right Still Isn’t Working

Episode 1 of the Good Girl Rebellion podcast.

Why Doing Everything Right Still Isn’t Working: How to Break Free From Good Girl Conditioning and Build a Business That Works for You

You did everything right. You worked hard and became the person people rely on and on the surface… that looks like success.

But if you’re honest, you’re also overextended, underpaid, carrying far too much and quietly exhausted.

Maybe you’re running a business, but it doesn’t quite feel like yours. Or maybe you’re trying to start one, doing all the right things behind the scenes… and not really getting anywhere.

You know you’re capable of more and that’s the frustrating part because somehow it’s still not happening.

Most of the women I work with are brilliant - thoughtful, capable and care about what they do. This is not about effort, it’s something else.

Good girl conditioning

We were raised to be excellent employees.

At school we were rewarded for:

  • sitting quietly

  • doing the work we were given

  • meeting deadlines

  • being responsible

  • not making things difficult

  • keeping everyone else happy

And those are good traitsb ut they train us to succeed inside systems designed by someone else.

Where someone else sets the rules, decides the priorities and defines what success looks like.

And then you start a business

And suddenly there’s no boss, no teacher and no one checking in - particularly when we’re just starting out.

And instead of asking:

What do I actually want to build?

We can end up asking the wrong questions:

  • What’s the right thing to do?

  • What will people approve of?

  • What will make everyone else comfortable?

And this is where so many capable women get stuck.

The real shift

Good girls are trained to execute other people’s plans. Entrepreneurs have to write their own.

And those are completely different skills.

Building something yourself requires:

  • self-trust

  • visibility

  • decision making

  • and sometimes… making people uncomfortable

And if you’re anything like me, those are not the things you were trained to prioritise.

So if this feels familiar please know that you’re not behind, you haven’t failed and there’s nothing wrong with you.

You were trained to play a different game and now you’re learning a new one.

This is where the rebellion comes in

And I know the word rebellion can sound… a bit dramatic but this isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s not about being louder, harder, or burning everything down.

It’s about recognising the patterns that don’t serve you anymore and choosing differently. Withdrawing your energy from what isn’t working and bringing it back to what you actually want to build.

A new way of doing this

The work I share is built around the REBEL framework.

And we’ll go into this properly in the podcast, but at a high level:

  • Resilient mindset: understanding the patterns that hold you back

  • Everyday action: actually doing the work

  • Bold visibility: showing up and being seen

  • Empowered pricing: charging in a way that reflects your value

  • Liberating results: building something that works for you

Because you don’t need to try harder, you need a different way forward - one that works for you.

So if you’re reading this and thinking…

“This is me”

Then you’re in the right place.

Because awareness is the first step in any rebellion.
